News / Hayley’s haircut raises over £3,000 for local care homes
A WOMAN from Lerwick who grew her hair over a 12-year period until it almost reached the back of her knees has raised over £3,000 for local care homes.
Hayley Leask Leaper went under the scissors at the Lounge Bar at the weekend, with Jennifer Murray doing the honours.
The hair itself is being donated to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs and hair pieces for children who have undergone cancer treatment.
She had initially set a target of raising £500 for Edward Thomason/Taing House and Montfield Support Services, but has now raised six times that amount.
The tally stands at £3,000.51, but Hayley thinks there might be a few more donations still to come.
Leaper said she felt a “stone lighter” after the big chop and has noticed how much quicker her hair now takes to dry.
“It’s taken so long to grow and as it took two seconds to be parted with it, it’ll take some getting used to,” she said.
