News / Costley wallet oversight
A MAN’s trip to the police station to collect his lost wallet – which officers discovered contained an ecstasy tablet – has landed him with fines totalling £350.
Brian Costley, of Lerwick’s St Olaf St, was also found in possession of a small amount of cocaine after later being searched by police in the station on Market Street on 24 July.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the 31 year old’s wallet had been handed into the Lerwick Police Station, with Costley asked to visit the office to confirm his identify.
When an officer looked inside his wallet, they found one ecstasy tablet. He was then searched and 0.4 grams of cocaine, worth around £20, was discovered in his possession.
Representing himself, Costley said he was at a low ebb at the time after his relationship broke up and had been offered the drugs, despite not fully knowing if he intended to take them.
