News / Sandy raises £4k for Disability Shetland
DISABILITY Shetland is set to land a much-needed cash boost of around £4,000 following campaigner Sandy Peterson’s recent fundraising event in Lerwick.
The 73-year-old walked five-mile circuits around the town on Saturday for his Aroond In Circles fundraiser.
He was joined by a number of other walkers during the day.
It is expected that the total amount of money raised from the event will reach £4,000.
The cash will provide a needed boost for Disability Shetland, which is becoming increasingly reliant on public donations in light of cuts in funding.
“We are very grateful to the 20 people – some of them clients, parents and carers – who did circuits, and the volunteers who worked at the collection tables,” Peterson said.
“We’re also thankful for the Shetland public who, once again, cheered us on and reached into their pockets to give us hope.”
Trustee Peterson has repeatedly taken it upon himself to fundraise for the charity in recent years.
The retired teacher welcomed in 2016 on top of Ronas Hill after trekking 40 miles from Lerwick on Hogmanay, raising thousands of pounds in the process.
