Letters / Be clear what you stand for
In response to Jonathan Wills reply (Ill-informed: SN, 17/10/16) to my earlier criticism of his stance regarding SIC councillors sitting as charitable trust trustees.
I would be more than happy to offer my apologies to his claim that my comments were ill-informed etc, if he will categorically state that he does not think it would be right and proper for elected members of the SIC to automatically become trustees of Shetland Charitable Trust; and confirm that he believes that trustees of the charitable trust should be elected solely for this purpose and not on the back of council elections.
In defence of my alleged inappropriate and ill-informed comments, I would say if prominent politicians, be they local, regional or national, do not make their position absolutely clear, consistent and in plain speak to the community they serve, it’s their fault if people are not clear what they stand for.
This is a real problem with politicians of every persuasion lately local or otherwise and why people are turning their backs on the political system we have.
Over to you, Jonathan.
