News / Vidlin road reopens

RESURFACING work which caused the only road into Vidlin to be closed for large parts of the day has finished ahead of schedule due to the recent good weather.

Shetland Islands Council said on Friday (21 October) that essential maintenance on a two kilometre stretch of the B9071 had been completed four days ahead of schedule. The road re-opened at 1pm.

The SIC agreed to review its communications strategy for road closures after local residents first learned of the work – which shut off the road from Laxo to Skelberry between 9am-1pm and 1.30pm-4pm during the week – through a notice in the local shop.

The council thanked road users for their “patience and co-operation” while the work was carried out.
