News / Disability fundraiser Sandy puts walking boots on again
FUNDRAISER Sandy Peterson is planning to walk a five-mile circuit of Lerwick for “as many laps as his auld legs will allow” in aid of Disability Shetland.
“Aroond in Circles for Disability Shetland” will take place starting at 9am on Saturday 29 October. Further circuits will follow at 11am, 1pm and, legs permitting, 3pm.
Sandy will be joined for parts of the route by children from the Disability Shetland Saturday club, with their leaders and volunteers.
Disability Shetland said it would be delighted if walkers, runners or cyclists wish to take part in the fundraising event. They can turn up at the Market Cross any time after 9am, check in and then do all or part of the route, however small.
You can get more information and sponsor forms from Market House, or by contacting Sandy by phone on (01806) 577321 or by emailing peterson@skelberry.shetland.co.uk.
To help with fundraising, Disability Shetland will have tables, displays and collection tins at Tesco and the Toll Clock Shopping Centre where walkers, runners and cyclists will be welcomed with drinks, fruit and sweets.
He has been at the forefront of efforts to raise money for Disability Shetland, which has been engaged in a battle for survival in recent years having failed to secure core funding to pay for offices and emplpyees.
You can donate to Disability Shetland at www.disabilityshetland.com by using the Just Giving appeal linked to “Aroond in Circles for Disability Shetland”, by handing in a donation at Market House in Lerwick or by sponsoring somebody who is taking part.
