News / Danny completes four half marathons
A YOUNG man from Shetland said he is delighted to have raised well over £2,000 for a charity set up in memory of his best childhood friend.
Since June, Danny Sandison has completed four half marathons in memory of Fabian Richardson, who died from diabetes in September 2005 aged just 12.
Thanks to publicity on the Shetland News website Sandison, who now lives in Aberdeen, was able to raise four times his envisaged target of £500.
“Without Shetland News’ help I don’t feel I would have raised as much!” he said. “After the website posted the link I raised over £500 in one afternoon! This was my original fundraising target.”
The grant total of £2,112.50 will now go towards the FAB fund which collects money for Diabetes UK.
Sandison’s times were Peterhead (26 June) 2 hours 18 minutes, Perth (13 August) 2:16, Edinburgh (18 September) 2:05, and Glasgow (2 October) 2:01.
“I am delighted I was able to improve on each one but most important I am delighted with the amount of money raised,” Sandison added.
