News / Russian bombers intercepted off Shetland
TWO Russian bomber planes were intercepted by RAF aircraft west of Shetland on Thursday.
Typhoon aircraft from RAF Lossiemouth escorted the Blackjack bombers while they were in the UK area of interest.
The Russian planes, which came from the direction of Norway, did not enter UK air space.
Typhoon aircraft were also launched from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire as a precaution, but they were not required to intercept.
A number of similar incidents have occurred in the last year as Russian planes came close to entering UK airspace.
