News / Loganair punctuality below average in first part of year

Loganair managing director Jonathan Hinkles.

THE PUNCTUALITY of Loganair’s flights remained below the UK average for the first four months of this year.

Figures from the Flightontime website show that in April – the most recent month for which figures are available – 77.6 per cent of Loganair flights operated no more than 15 minutes late. That is three per cent below the UK-wide average.

For the period from 1 January to 30 April, 74.5 per cent of Loganair flights were no more than 15 minutes late – 1.9 per cent below the nationwide average figure.

The figures are based on Loganair routes throughout the country, rather than for those in and out of Sumburgh, so it is unclear whether there has been any improvement in the punctuality of Shetland flights in recent months.

In the 2015 calendar year, 78.5 per cent of flights to and from Sumburgh departed within 15 minutes – a performance the airline itself described as “exceptionally poor” and some way short of its target of 85 per cent.

Back in March, Loganair operations director Maurice Boyle said the company was “pretty well on the way to addressing all the issues” and a punctuality rate of 83 per cent in February “suggests we’re on the right track now”.

Shetland News has asked Loganair whether it feels the plans it put in place last autumn to turn the situation around have resulted in any improvement, and for more up to date figures on the airline’s performance.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Loganair managing director Jonathan Hinkles said: “Loganair will provide a full update on its performance covering all recent months, including April, to the ZetTrans external transport forum on October 7.”
