News / Swimmer rescued from sea
A WOMAN who got into difficulties when swimming off the Sandness coast was described as “exhausted and cold but otherwise fine” when she was helped out of the sea on Saturday evening.
Her husband, who watched her from the coast, alerted Shetland Coastguard just before half past six.
Aith lifeboat was tasked to assist the experienced swimmer near the Holm of Melby, but she had already been located by a nearby boat and taken from the water before the lifeboat arrived.
She was then taken by lifeboat to the West Burrafirth pier from where a waiting ambulance transferred her to the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick.
