News / Immigration raid update
A MAN detained in last month’s Home Office immigration raid on Shetland’s restaurants and takeaways has been removed from the country.
Three of the eleven alleged immigration offenders remain in detention pending removal from the UK.
The other seven people have been released from detention and have been ordered to report to immigration enforcement regularly while their cases progress.
In July the Home Office confirmed to Shetland News that action was taken at four restaurants and takeaways across the isles, with all of the raids taking place during an eight-hour spell on the same day.
Financial penalties of up to £20,000 for each illegal worker who was discovered may be imposed unless the business can demonstrate that appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out.
