News / Body recovered north of Orkney
THE FAMILY of a missing man who fell overboard from a fishing vessel near Orkney in April has been notified after a body was recovered 25 miles north west of the isles on Sunday.
Police confirmed that the body, which was found by a fishing boat, has not been formally identified yet.
However, the family of 25 year old missing Apollo fisherman Craig Reid, who was from Inverness, has been notified.
Police added that enquiries are ongoing.
The Sumburgh based coastguard helicopter was involved in the initial search for the missing man on 18 April after he was reported missing 20 miles to the north west of Orkney.
The Stornoway coastguard helicopter and two military aircraft also assisted, but the search was called off amid “challenging” weather conditions.
