News / Rhoda Bulter Award
FOLK planning to enter a story for the annual Rhoda Bulter Award are reminded there’s only a week to go until the closing date at the end of this month.
This year the competition is for a short story written in dialect with the title Bo-annie Blue from one of Rhoda’s poems.
It’s organised by dialect group Shetland ForWirds on behalf of the Bulter family who judge the entries and choose the winner.
Shetland ForWirds convenor Davy Cooper said: “Da competition is a fine wye o encouraging folk ta use dialect in der writin at da sam time as keeping Rhoda’s memory alive.”
Bulter, one of Shetland’s most important twentieth century writers, was well known for her storytelling and prose as well as her poetry.
