News / Banned for a year

A MAN from Tingwall who took to the wheel after drinking has been banned from the road for one year.

Iain Jamieson, of 12 Herrisdale Park, Gott admitted at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday to driving with 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath on the A970 at Heylor and Urafirth junction on 19 June. The legal limit is 22 microgrammes.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said police encountered Jamieson while he was driving.

The 39 year old failed a roadside screening test, was arrested and then taken to the Lerwick police station.

Defence agent Liam McAllister said the construction industry worker “accepted his misjudgment”.

He has been walking a ten-mile round trip to work since the incident, the solicitor added, showing how “pro-active” he has been.

Sheriff Philip Mann banned Jamieson from the road for one year and fined him £350.

He also was fined £350 for behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at an address in North Roe on the same day.
