News / Algal scum in Unst again
WARNING signs are to be posted around Loch of Cliff on Unst after toxic blue green algae was confirmed by environment watchdog SEPA on Thursday.
Shetland Islands Council said they would be putting notices up on Friday warning people to avoid the algal scum, which can prove deadly to pets and livestock and cause medical problems in humans.
Adjoining landowners and fishing interests have been advised of the situation along with NHS Shetland.
The SIC said there was no indication of any adverse impact on local water supplies.
