News / Bailed on drugs charges

A WOMAN from Devon is to go on trial at Lerwick Sheriff Court after she denied being concerned in the supply of Class A illegal drugs.

On 20 November last year, 26 year old Sarah Helen McDowell, of 36 Higher Polsham Road, Paignton, was released from custody after being arrested in Lerwick, on condition that she left Shetland and did not return except to appear in court.

On Friday this week she was brought back to court to face three drugs charges, along with a charge that she had breached her bail after being found three days later on 23 November in Lerwick’s Commercial Road.

She is charged with being concerned with the supply of heroin at Lerwick’s Ladies Drive and Islesburgh House youth hostel on King Harald Street between 8 and 18 November last year.

She also faces two charges of being in possession of the Class B drug cannabis at Islesburgh House on 18 November.

McDowell denied all the charges and was granted bail ahead of her trial on 1 September.
