Letters / What will it take for people to be heard?
The only question I have for Jonathan Wills is how do the people of Shetland bring his proposal to the table? [‘Vice chairman wants trust to restore democratic control’, SN 25/4/16).
Jonathan’s proposal for majority democratic control of the Shetland Charitable Trust is compelling as it hands control to the people of Shetland. Why would anyone consider anything else?
A simple postal vote would guarantee a democratic outcome. If we added a maximum term of office to be served by a trustee then the result would be a bold and refreshing change for the future.
It is disappointing to hear from Jonathan’s Radio Shetland interview that because of legal advice his proposal cannot be discussed at the charitable trust’s next meeting.
Quite simply, what would it take for the people of Shetland to be heard?
