News / Rural manifesto plan
THE ORGANISATION behind raising the voice of rural Scotland in Holyrood are holding two meetings in Shetland next month as part of their nationwide tour.
Scottish Rural Action (SRA) says it is holding the country’s biggest ever conversation on rural issues as part of its campaign to draw up a manifesto for rural Scotland.
The campaign will culminate in October when the Scottish Rural Parliament will hold a debate on the final version of the manifesto.
This document will then be used to promote the views of rural communities throughout Scotland to decision makers “at all levels of government”.
Sue Beer, an SRA director based in Shetland, said: “The manifesto will bring together the views and ambitions of people from all parts of rural Scotland and be a powerful tool for change.
“We are being supported by partners to deliver our ambition of holding the biggest ever conversation on rural issues, and collating information from many sources to write a manifesto which reflects the real needs of all of the people who live in our diverse rural communities.”
The Shetland events are being held on Friday 13 May from 12.30pm to 3pm at Market House on Lerwick’s Market Street, and again from 10.30pm to 1pm on the following day, Saturday 14 May.
