News / Trump eyes Shetland
FOLLOWING recent controversy, billionaire tycoon Donald Trump has resigned from his US presidential campaign and returned to Scotland to focus on developments in his ancestral homeland.
After suffering setbacks in Aberdeen he has now set his eyes on remote Shetland and just signed a deal to purchase land at Garthspool in Lerwick to develop a 9 hole Pitch’n’Putt course.
The concept is in the early stages of development, but plans include reclaiming land to expand the available area.
The first step is to purchase the land and Trump is understood to be in talks with Lerwick Port Authority.
He is also working with local businesses to ensure the development benefits the local economy as much as possible.
“I’m very excited to be here and working with the locals to develop something for everyone,” the former presidential front runner said.
“I was in discussions with Jonny (Polson) and Craig (Sim) at Artmachine where I hope to put my clubhouse and was very impressed with their attitude.
“In fact I have bought shares in their company and look forward to working with them.”
Trump refused to comment about stepping down from his controversial campaign, apart from muttering that it was “good to quit while you’re ahead”.
Polson and Sim were reluctant to give away much about the proposal, but did say that Trump had made it “worth their while”.
Lerwick Port Authority has yet to comment.
