News / Police seize heroin at ferry terminal
A FORTY one year old man was taken into police custody on Wednesday after being found in possession of suspected heroin worth £1,100 at Lerwick’s NorthLink ferry terminal.
The man was stopped and searched at the Holmsgarth terminal after disembarking the ferry from Aberdeen.
Police chief inspector Lindsay Tulloch praised the role of the Dogs Against Drugs charity in the search.
“The work of the drugs dogs is invaluable in supporting Police Scotland to catch those who continue to carry Class A drugs for sale in our community,” he said.
“The dogs and their handlers are not only committed to detecting and stopping people transporting drugs to Shetland but carry out a fantastic programme of drugs education and prevention in primary and secondary schools through out Shetland.
“I cannot praise the charity enough for the contribution they make to keeping our community a safe place to live.”
A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
