Letters / They didn’t realise where I was
With respect to having a local 999 handling centre, I must agree as it was myself that contacted the fire service in regard to the fire to the east of Mousavord Loch (Grass fire threatened power lines, SN, 17/03/16).
Firstly at the loch itself there was no reception, and after running up to the spinner to finally get reception I was on the phone for two minutes before the operator realised I was in Shetland.
I was unaware that the calls were handled on the Scottish mainland, and when she said there were controlled burns in the area, I thought ‘okay’ until I realised they didn’t know where I was.
When the operator finally realised I was in Shetland, they said an appliance was on its way.
