News / ‘We will find you’, police warn dealers after latest seizure
POLICE have hailed the seizure of £6,000-worth of heroin and cannabis from an address in Lerwick’s Hoofields at the weekend.
The class A and class B substances were recovered after officers searched an address on Saturday.
A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal, leading to a 33 year old man and a 38 year old woman appearing at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.
Police said that, in February alone, drugs with a value of £21,000 were seized.
Inspector Paul Daley vowed that officers would continue with targeted efforts to find all those concerned in the misuse of drugs and to “protect local communities from the potential wider impact of controlled substances”.
“Local officers, with assistance from specialists team, remain focused on disrupting the supply of illegal drugs to Shetland,” Daley said.
“Drugs not only affect the most vulnerable in society but have the potential to harm entire communities, large or small.
“With over £20,000-worth of drugs seized in one month alone, it is hoped this serves as a stark warning to those intent on bringing drugs to Shetland: we will find you and you will be brought to justice.
“Our local communities in Shetland are to be praised for reporting suspicious behaviour to us. In many cases this has led directly to arrests for drug activity.
“Local people know best when something is not right so we are very grateful for the information we receive and can reassure residents that all information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be used to help keep Shetland safe.”
