News / Two hurt in accident at Levenwick
TWO people were taken to hospital with injuries following a two-vehicle accident which resulted in the closure of the A970 road at Levenwick on Tuesday morning.
Police in Shetland tweeted shortly after 10am that the main road was closed, and it was only reopened in the early afternoon.
The fire and rescue service said appliances from Lerwick and Sandwick were called to the scene, at the Levenwick junction, shortly after 9.30am.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to release two people, one from each vehicle, and passed the casualties on to ambulance paramedics for treatment.
One of the casualties had to be taken to Aberdeen for treatment, while the other was taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital.
A fire and rescue spokeswoman said the scene was made safe and the appliances returned to their stations just after 11am.
