News / Biggest ever schools music fest
A RECORD number of entries have been received for this year’s Shetland schools music festival.
Over 300 submissions have been received from individuals and groups for the annual event, which takes place between 14 and17 March at Mareel in Lerwick.
The adjudicator for this year’s festival will be Anne Macdonald, a violinist with the Scottish Ballet Orchestra and a tutor at Trinity College, London.
The festival will see classes during the daytime and evening, with the public welcome to watch for free and give their support.
Children taking part in the classes will receive awards depending on their performance.
The showpiece Young Musician of the Year concert for both senior and junior levels will take place on 16 March.
A gala concert celebrating the week will then be held a day later, with tickets for both nights available via Shetland Box Office.
