News / Cheap fuel at Hillswick
A COMMUNITY shop in Shetland’s north mainland is offering the cheapest fuel in the isles as part of a special Christmas offer.
Anyone purchasing £50 of groceries can receive a voucher entitling them to up to 50 litres of petrol or diesel for just £1 a litre, 10p below the standard price.
This is the third time the shop, that re-opened under community ownership six years ago, has run the offer.
Manageress Sheila Tulloch said that the shop was taking advantage of its sales software, which made it easy to run such offers by providing vouchers to anyone who purchased more than a certain amount of goods.
However the offer only runs until Monday 7 December, after which shoppers have one more week until 14 December to fill up their tanks with cheap fuel.
Tulloch also advised that the offer does not apply to purchases of fuel, stamps, tobacco, coal or PayPoint transactions.
“We considered doing it a while ago, but sometimes the wholesale fuel price doesn’t come down low enough to let us do it,” she said.
“But taking into account the 5p fuel duty allowance, it’s not going to cost us that much.”
