News / Teen takeover
A HOST of high school pupils from Sandwick got hands-on experience of working in the food industry this week with a sold-out dinner service in Lerwick.
Hay’s Dock Café staged the second annual Teens Takeover event this week as third year health and food technology pupils learned the ropes.
Half of the pupils helped head chef Bob Stephen prepare a specially-created menu in the kitchen, while the other half dealt with front-of-house service.
A total of 55 people ate in the restaurant over the two nights while the pupils picked up skills in food preparation, catering and customer service.
Sandwick junior high school food and technology teacher Margaret Ramsay said her class received “fantastic” support from Shetland Museum and Archives and its Hay’s Dock Café Restaurant.
“A sell-out event for both nights has really given the pupils a chance to see how a real-life kitchen and restaurant experience would be,” she said.
