News / Celebrity chef to open food fair

Celebrity chef Tony Singh is set to open the Shetland Food Fair.

CELEBRITY chef Tony Singh will open this year’s Shetland Food Fair with a demonstration and Q&A.

The Scottish restaurant owner will appear at the Clickimin Leisure Complex event in Lerwick on 30 October.

The Leith-born chef appeared in the 2013 BBC series The Incredible Spice Men and he is known to combine Sikh flavours with Scottish produce.

Singh will give a cookery demonstration to open the food fair, which is taking place between 30 October and 1 November. He will then undertake a Q&A session before signing books.

Promote Shetland brand marketing manager Misa Hay said the organisation was “thrilled” to be bringing Singh to the isles.

The chef will also prepare a special meal at the Scalloway Hotel on the evening of 28 October, with the event open on a first-come, first-served booking basis.

“We met Tony at the Scottish Hotel Awards earlier this year, and invited him to Shetland to sample the fabulous local produce we have on our doorstep,” said Scalloway Hotel’s Peter MacKenzie.

“We are delighted to be welcoming him to the isles, and look forward to him working with our own team of chefs to create a special dinner as part of the 2015 Shetland Food Fair.”

Those interested in attending the Scalloway event should contact the hotel on 01595 880444.

The Shetland Food Fair meanwhile will take place in the main hall of the Clickimin, with admission costing £2 on the door. Weekend passes will also be available on the door or in advance from Scoop Wholefoods.
