LERWICK Port Authority has reached a major milestone with the completion of the sheet pile walls of the new £16.5 million Holmsgarth North pier project.

A spokesman described the early completion as a “splendid achievement” by contractor Tulloch Developments.

The new pier, scheduled to be completed in one year from now, is already providing significant shelter.

The L-shaped pier will provide over 800 metres of sheltered berthing and more working area for the local fishing fleet, including a new fish market.
