Letters / Why not put something back?
I read Allen Fraser’s letters with interest (‘St Ninian’s eyesores’, SN 16/9/15).
OK, the confusion as to the knowledge of Promote Shetland and the tourist office will be unclear to visitors, but we ignore the good work that Promote Shetland do as their remit is far wider than just tourists.
As to social media, Mr Fraser would need to embrace this technology or fade in to oblivion. Does he not engage in technology to promote his business? To ignore social media would be exceptionally naive
To live in Shetland is a privilege, to visit is a unique gift, but residents and tourists must take it as it is. Our scenery is special, the elements something else, the wildlife rare and our community together with its image is beyond imagination.
So, back to Mr Fraser. If you have taken over 200 visitors to sites in Shetland and you have charged them for the opportunity why don’t you clear the weeds and put something back to the very thing from which you earn your living? I assume you are not a charity and make a profit?
