News / Pushy sellers

SHETLAND trading standard officers are reminding folk to be on their guard against doorstep sellers, following reports of pushy and aggressive behaviour by sellers.

Team leader David Marsh warned: “What may at first seem like a bargain is much more likely to turn out to be an expensive mistake.

“The best defence is to simply say no, because showing any interest in what’s being offered is only likely to encourage the seller.”

Doorstep sellers can be reported to Trading Standards on 01595 744887 or to Police Scotland on 101. If anyone feels threatened they should dial 999.

Trading Standards also have packs containing information and advice to help people deal with cold callers, whether at the door, on the phone, or by post or email – these can be picked up from their office on the ground floor of Lerwick’s Charlotte House, or posted out on request.
