News / Tavish’s health survey
SHETLAND MSP Tavish Scott is asking islanders to tell him about their experiences of local and national health services after having received a steady stream of complaints from constituents.
He said the responses would inform his campaign for better health services including an improved funding package for NHS Shetland.
Last week it emerged that Shetland health board had already incurred a £400,000 overspent in the current financial year.
The LibDem politician said health services in the isles were underfunded by around £900,000 which was putting a strain on GPs and nurses alike.
Launching his survey on Monday, he said he wanted to find out the views of islanders on GP services, mental health, dental care and travelling out of Shetland for mainland health services.
“We all depend on local health services and the dedication of nurses, doctors and health staff. People are concerned and I have had a steady stream of complaints.
“The financial pressure on our local health board from the Scottish Government is not helping. I am concerned about the long term effects on patient care.
“The survey results will help me to make a stronger case for our health services in Shetland in the Scottish Parliament,” he said.
The survey is scheduled to be delivered to homes across Shetland from this week. It can also be filled in online at www.tavishscott.com/healthcare
