News / Two men appear in court on drugs charges

A TWENTY seven year old man has been kept behind bars and a 29 year old has been released on bail after both appeared on drugs charges at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.

Anthony Thomas McCormick, from Liverpool, appeared on a petition alleging that he committed a number of drugs-related offences and an additional charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

McCormick made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody. He is expected to reappear in court next week.

James Hamish Campbell, of Wallasey in Merseyside, also appeared in private on a petition alleging a number of drugs offences.

He made no plea or declaration, was committed for further examination and released on bail.

Meanwhile, a 26 year old from Glasgow has denied shouting, swearing, behaving aggressively and threatening police officers at the Ocean Atlantic vessel, berthed at Victoria Pier, and Lerwick Police Station.

Tony Harvey, of Waulkmill Avenue, Barrhead, is alleged to have committed the offence – also said to have been aggravated by prejudice relating to sexual orientation – on Sunday.

He was granted bail and is due to stand trial on 15 October.

The case of a 35 year old man accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his partner has been continued without plea.

Ivor Smith, of Gilbertson Road, Lerwick, is alleged to have shouted, sworn and behaved aggressively towards the woman, as well as grabbing two phones from her to prevent her from calling the police, at a Sandwick address on Sunday.

He was granted bail and the case was continued until 24 June.
