POLICE in Shetland are asking for witnesses to come forward after damage worth thousands of pound were caused to the public toilets and waiting rooms at both the Vidlin and Whalsay ferry terminals sometime over the weekend.

Plasterboard walls at the Vidlin waiting room were kicked in and the public phone vandalised. In Whalsay one of the toilets were damaged.

Speaking on Radio Shetland on Tuesday evening, Karl Symons of the Shetland Islands Council said: “The belief locally is that the damage was done in the evening of Sunday 24 May.

“The estimated  cost of repairing it will be around £2,000 which is quite a significant sum”

He added that the cost to repair the broken toilet in Whalsay would amount to a further £500.

Anyone with information is asked to call the local police station on 101.
