News / Drunk 25 yard dash

AN UNEMPLOYED Lerwick man who drove a motorbike around 25 yards while almost twice the alcohol limit, without insurance while on bail is to be sentenced next week.

On Thursday Lerwick Sheriff Court heard that 19 year old Mark Simon Rushby, of 5 Ladies Drive, was arrested on Wednesday after he was seen driving the unregistered vehicle he bought one year ago.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said Rushby was spotted by police who stopped and breathalysed him after smelling alcohol on his breath.

Defence agent Tommy Allan said was taking the motorbike to a nearby car park and only drove it about the “quarter length of a football pitch”.

Honorary Sheriff Sandy Cluness deferred sentence until 27 May, granting Rushby bail but disqualifying from driving in the interim.
