A MAN who violently assaulted his estranged wife until she had “many, many” bruises on her body and an imprint of a shoe on her head has been fined £1,700.
Lawrence Lee Feek, 40, of Lavender Cottage, Bolingbroke in Boston, repeatedly attacked his wife at a Wester Skeld address on 2 January.
Self-employed fisherman Feek pleaded guilty to the charge of assault and was given the four-figure fine at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the incident was a “particularly violent” domestic assault.
The court heard that Lawrence Lee Feek’s wife was checking on their 12-year-old son when the man entered the room and “became immediately aggressive”.
In a repeated assault, Feek pushed his wife against furniture – dislodging a bunk bed from its fixings – and knocked her to the floor before kicking her on the head.
He also grappled with her to the point of pulling a “chunk” of hair from her head, whilst he also hit her with a Playstation games console.
She managed to escape to another room before their distressed son left the house to raise the alarm, with police later attending.
Mackenzie added that the woman was taken to hospital with “many, many bruises” over her body. Both eyes were badly swollen and she had an “imprint on the right eye consistent with shoe tread”.
Defence agent Chris Dowle said that alcohol had been involved, but it was “not an excuse” for the attack.
Feek – who financially supports his son – was spared a jail term by honorary sheriff Eric Peterson because he did not want to “inconvenience” the 12-year-old any further.
