News / Loganair flight diverted after engine shutdown
A FLIGHT from Shetland destined for Edinburgh had to be diverted to Aberdeen as a precaution after a warning light came on.
The captain of the Saab 340 aircraft, which left Sumburgh at 7.40am with 28 passengers on board, decided to shut down one of its engine and diverted the BE6992 flight. It landed safely in Aberdeen an hour after take-off.
A Loganair spokesman said: “A warning indicator light came on and the captain took the decision to shut down one engine as a precaution and divert to the nearest airport.
“The Saab 340 aircraft landed safely at Aberdeen Airport at 8.40am, where it was met by emergency services as is standard procedure.
“Arrangements are being made to take the passengers on to their original destination.”
The disruption has resulted in a delay of nearly two hours for the late morning flight from Edinburgh. It was scheduled to depart at 11.40am but is not now expected to leave before 1pm.
