News / Chapel on the market
PROPERTY buyers are being given a rare opportunity to breathe new life into a former Methodist chapel in Shetland’s south mainland.
The chapel in Dunrossness was built in 1894 by local people in a secluded spot next to the B9122 and comes with a detached cottage that originally served as a manse.
For offers around £145,000 the buyer will get the undeveloped church building with a porch, ante-room and toilet as well as the main room of worship, along with permission for change of use.
Estate agent Anderson & Goodlad pointed out two plaques on either side of the porch that reveal more about those who helped develop the chapel.
“They give you some names of Methodists who were involved in having the chapel built and who donated the land,” they said.
The three-bedroom chapel cottage has recently been used as holiday accommodation.
Details of the property can be found here.
