News / Police seize heroin worth £10,000

Chief inspector Lindsay Tulloch.

A THIRTY six year old man and a 19-year old woman are in police custody after heroin with an estimated street value of £10,000 was seized on Friday.

Police said that the man was intercepted and searched after disembarking the NorthLink ferry in Lerwick on Friday.

He was found to be in possession of what is thought to be heroin.

A 19-year-old woman was later detained in Lerwick for also being in the possession of heroin.

The local charity ‘Dogs against Drugs’ assisted police officers in the operation.

Area commander Lindsay Tulloch said: “Couriers continue to make attempts to carry illegal drugs for sale on Shetland where a market for drugs remains.

“We are determined to disrupt and stop this and again urge the public to help and report anyone who they believe is involved in using or selling illegal drugs in Shetland.

“With your help we can act to prevent and remove the abuse of illegal drugs in our community.”
