News / Pair on drug charges

A MAN and a woman appeared in private relating to alleged drugs offences at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday afternoon.

Nineteen year old Elle Francis Binnie, from Aberdeen, and Gregor David Manson, 36, from Lerwick, both appeared from custody.

They made no plea or declaration, were committed for further examination and released on bail.

Meanwhile, sentence was deferred on a 64 year old man who admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and behaving aggressively towards his wife.

Ellis Leask, whose address was given as care of Allans Solicitors, North Ness, Lerwick, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at an address in Scalloway’s Craigpark Road on Sunday.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said that, while it was on the face of it “quite a low level incident”, the woman had been “worn down” by the cumulative effect of Leask’s behaviour

The fiscal added that Leask had a drink problem which he did not acknowledge.

Defence agent Tommy Allan said Leask appreciated he wasn’t welcome back to the family home.

Sheriff Philip Mann granted bail and deferred sentence until 15 April for background reports to be prepared.

Also in court on Monday was 58 year old Martyn Fisher, of Hayhoull Place, Bigton who is charged with shouting, swearing and behaving aggressively, driving a car while unfit through drink or drugs and refusing to identify himself to a police officer.

The alleged offences were committed on Saturday in Bigton. The case was continued without plea until Wednesday and Fisher was granted bail with special conditions attached.
