Letters / The problem remains

Douglas Young has re-confirmed (Not an office bearer; SN, 09/03/15) he is “currently not an office bearer of any political party”, simultaneously, accusing Gordon Harmer of an “inaccurate outpouring of vitriolic rudeness”.

This non-office-bearing sounds temporary and he cites “ill health” as the reason. Certainly I – and I’m sure Mr Harmer and his “five cohorts” -whoever they may be, wish him a speedy recovery.

The problem remains, however, that Mr Young was, reportedly, elected SNP Shetland branch press and publicity officer at their Annual General Meeting in January.

He has not mentioned resigning and there has been no announcement of a replacement being elected.

So it seems that, while he may be unable to fulfil the duties of his office due to ill health, he must still, in name, at least, be branch press and publicity officer.

If that is the case, then, surely, it is he and other branch officers who are making the inaccurate statements, not Mr Harmer?

So if Mr Young is no longer the SNP Shetland branch press and publicity officer and isn’t able to cope with people “being rude” to him, my advice is to stop making contentious political statements in the media and to ask the remaining branch officers to do their job and make it known how/by whom his role is now being fulfilled – as before, “…booze-ups, breweries,…etc.”!
