News / Magnus is top cadet
A YOUNG seaman from the West Side of Shetland has been awarded as Clyde Marine’s trainee engineer of the year for 2014.
Twenty two year old Magnus Isbister, from Walls, recently gained an engineering ticket as officer of the watch. He is currently sailing on the Safe Boreas, a newly-built accommodation rig on her maiden voyage between Singapore and Stavanger in Norway.
Isbister said he was “surprised and delighted” to learn he had been selected for the award.
“I’ve really enjoyed my cadetship and all its variety during the past three years, both at the NAFC Shetland School of Nautical Studies and also during my time at sea with Gulfmark on several of their platform supply vessels,” he told Shetland News.
“I am now looking forward to progressing my career at sea and working towards my next ticket. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Clyde Marine, the NAFC and Gulfmark UK for all their tremendous support throughout my cadetship which has led to this award.”
