News / Strangs to run accommodation block

A NEW Shetland company has been selected by Petrofac to manage and operate the accommodation units at Sella Ness.

Shetland Facilities Management (SFM) has taken over the contract to run the site opposite Sullom Voe from ESS Offshore.

The accommodation clock currently houses workers for the Shetland Gas Plant built by Total.

SFM was formed by Frank and Debbie Strang, who own and have transformed the former RAF Saxa Vord camp to provide visitor accommodation in Unst.

Strang said: “We have huge experience when it comes to operating accommodation in Shetland and have added a number of highly experienced facilities management professionals to the team to ensure Petrofac get what they want to the standards they expect.”

SFM will take over all aspects of the running of the site, including security, logistics and housekeeping, and are committed to using local suppliers.

Some 90 ESS staff at Sella Ness have transferred to SFM under TUPE regulations along with more than 100 agency staff.

Sella Ness accommodates Petrofac employees working to complete the gas plant. Petrofac has also been contracted by BP to build the gas sweetening plant at Sullom Voe.

SFM hope to be able to expand the capacity of the site beyond its current limit of 848 in conjunction with its Norwegian owners Malthus.
