News / New office bearers
THE local branch of the Scottish National Party has elected Robbie McGregor, who lives in Quarff, as its new convener.
Following an AGM in Lerwick Clickimin Centre on Saturday, the SNP said its Shetland membership has grown by more than 500 per cent since September’s independence referendum.
Longstanding convener Charlie Gallagher stood down at the meeting but was elected vice-convener.
Peter Dodge remains as treasurer and Kate Massie was elected branch secretary.
Additional office bearers – “required to cope with surging membership in the Isles” – are Angela Sutherland (branch organiser), Louise Giblin (women’s officer and political education Officer) as well as a Douglas Young (press and publicity officer).
