News / Gritter goes off road
TWO council workers suffered minor injuries after an SIC road gritter left the road at the Lang Kames on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at around 10.30am on the A970 around four miles south of Voe. The vehicle rolled down an embankment and the two workers were able to get out of the cab. They are now receiving treatment.
Police attended the scene promptly, along with other council staff who were alerted by the driver using a mobile phone.
The road was slushy and wet at the time, in between prolonged spells of sleet and hail showers. No other vehicles were involved, and an SIC spokesman said the cause of the accident was unknown but an internal investigation would be carried out.
The spokesman added the gritter would be recovered from the roadside in the next few days, once weather conditions allow.
