News / Tavish’s fare campaign
SHETLAND MSP Tavish Scott continued his campaign to see Loganair reduce air fares following the drop in fuel prices in the Scottish Parliament on Thursday.
Scottish energy minister Fergus Ewing told Scott during a debate on oil and gas that he would be willing to contact Loganair on the issue.
Earlier this week Loganair denied they had imposed a fuel surcharge and said they were not in a position to lower fares immediately, as they purchased fuel at least one year in advance.
Scott said: “I was very pleased to hear that Mr Ewing was willing to contact Loganair regarding the possible reduction in prices for their customers as their fuel bills continue to fall.
“It is vitally important that the Scottish government ensure that energy, freight and transport companies pass the savings made as a result of cheaper fuel on to their customers, especially those in the northern isles who often rely on these lifeline services and have a limited choice in which services they can use.
“Many of these companies were certainly not slow in upping prices for consumers when oil was on the rise, so there should be no excuse for delays when it’s on the way down.”
