News / Woman dies following Brae accident

AN ELDERLY woman has died in hospital as a result of Monday’s collision between a car and a coach in Brae, police have confirmed.

Initially, police had said that no one was injured in the accident although the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said two casualties were taken to hospital after having been cut free from their vehicle.

On Tuesday morning, Shetland Police said that “tragically” a 77-year female “has died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision”.

Police also advised that they would close the road outside the Brae Hotel between 1.30 and 4.30pm on Tuesday to allow the road policing unit, based in Dingwall, to carry out a full investigation.

A diversion is in place via the Brae to Mossbank (B9076) and Mossbank to Voe (A968) roads.
