News / Supermarket theft
A MAN caught stealing DVDS, games and electric razors from a supermarket was fined when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.
Thirty one year old Andrew Flaws, of Grodians, Lerwick, admitted stealing £237-worth of goods from Tesco’s store in the town yesterday.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the act was “planned rather than spontaneous”, as Flaws had brought some tin foil with him to wrap up the goods in the hope of deceiving the store’s electronic tagging system.
Defence agent Chris Dowle said his client “very much regrets” his actions and realised it was a stupid thing to do. The goods were fully recovered and he cooperated fully when accosted by staff.
Honorary sheriff Willie Shannon fined Flaws £125, reduced from £250 to reflect his early guilty plea.
