FOLLOWING Sunday’s huge turnout to Lerwick’s winter festival switch-on parade, Shetland News is also getting in the festive spirit.
We have asked local artist Julie Dennison to give our website at www.shetnews.co.uk the festive treatment, and her design was unveiled on Monday morning.
Dennison is currently doing the BA (Hons) Contemporary Textiles degree at Shetland College, and has also had two books published in the last year.
Shetland News has also launched a 2014 Christmas Quiz, supported by many local businesses, at www.shetnews.co.uk/features/christmas-2014
Every day until 25 December a new window will reveal a question. The closing date to submit entry sheets is Friday 9 January 2015.
Organisers of Sunday’s winter festival launch said the sheer number of people attending the event was “well beyond all expectations”.
Living Lerwick manager Christena Irvine said: “It was great to see such a fantastic turnout to the winter festival switch-on parade. The effort some of those in the parade had gone to was amazing.
“We would like to thank all the town centre businesses who made this happen by voting for and contributing to Living Lerwick, particularly those who add to the attractions we provide by putting on their own deals for customers.”
The main events within the winter festival continue until 21 December.
These include festive decorations, live local music, vintage film projection, a town centre wide advent calendar, a spot the trow competition, a Santa’s Grotto, a fireworks display and extended shopping hours.
