News / Christmas buffet
THE TEAM behind this summer’s successful Shetland Rock Festival are planning a special night of festive fun entitled The Xmas Buffet.
It will take place on Saturday 27 December at the Lerwick Legion, featuring five of Shetland’s most popular bands from the alternative scene and beyond.
Kicking off the night will be Lyall vs Murray, a DJ v drum machine pitting Murray Arthur, behind the kit, against one of Shetland’s most popular DJs, Lyall Halcrow. They promise to “bring some funky numbers” to proceedings.
Next up will be the reunion of Beef Cleaver. They last performed at Mareel last Christmas, and the charismatic presence of frontwoman Claire Thomason has proved to be a big hit with crowds.
The Dirty Lemons will finish off a busy year of gigging by playing a set full of songs familiar to and popular with crowds.
Veteran rockers Ten Tonne Dozer wil rock the crowd once more – their last performance at the 2014 Buffet having been “a true return to form for the boys”.
Rounding off the night will be Troppo Funk, a band consisting of some of this generation’s most gifted Shetland musicians playing a set of funky numbers that have gone down a storm with fans of all genres in the past couple of years.
Co-founder of the Heavy Metal Buffet, Jamie Hatch, said: “We had planned to take a bit of time out until the Buffet 2015 but we had the opportunity to put on a fantastic night of music at the Legion, so when we found out about the availability of the venue for this particular date, we jumped straight in.
“The line-up has something for fans of music from any genre and encapsulates the type of events we are trying to put on up here. It’s certainly a great precursor towards next year’s Shetland Rock Festival.”
- Tickets, priced £10, can be bought via Shetland Box Office either online, over the phone or in person at Islesburgh and Mareel.
