News / Both lifeboats called out
THE LERWICK and the Aith lifeboat were called out on Monday afternoon after the stand-by Coastguard search and rescue helicopter developed a fault while out on a training exercise.
Shetland Coastguard was alerted at 3pm and instantly tasked the two lifeboats.
A spokesman for the Lerwick based coastguard station said the chopper appeared to be suffering from low gear box oil pressure while 32 miles west of Sumburgh.
The helicopter landed safely at Sumburgh airport at 3.15pm.
